Some customers express disappointment regarding the limited payment options, as The Dolphin currently accepts cash only. This can be inconvenient for those used to card transactions. Occasionally, busy periods may lead to longer wait times, particularly during peak lunch and dinner hours. A few visitors have noted that the seating can be limited, especially if the shop is packed. While the dual Chinese and English menu appeals to many, some purists feel it dilutes the traditional fish and chips experience. Lastly, although there are vegetarian options, the focus remains heavily on fried foods, which might not suit everyone’s dietary preferences.
Got a sausage dinner, it was ready in a few minutes and bloody hell, all the bits were DELICIOUS! Loved how the peas were soft, but were still peas; not the pale blue mush dished out by some other chippies. I also loved the thinly sliced onions - tasty, soft and covered in gravy. If you're still reading this, the chips and sausages exactly how they should be. In my case, they were eaten on a bench on the sea front.
Best fish n chips I’ve ever had! These guys have nailed it. You’d think it was an easy thing to achieve but it’s evidently really not. We went to the seaside and for a treat we opted for the traditional post sea feast. There were not as many take aways here as there are in other towns - or we didn’t find them - so our search brought us here. At first given the offer was Chinese/English food we thought we might not get the trad chippy experience we were hoping for - but we could not have been more wrong! Honestly the chips were chunky golden and creamy tasting - no skimping on potato variety here! Plus the portion was large. The fish was gorgeous - a large piece in golden crispy satisfying crunchy and delicious - all served wrapped in paper with liberal salt and vinegar. I’m telling you this was better than any I’ve had in any chippy in many years. I could not recommend the Dolphin highly enough. Do not hesitate! Bring cash though as they don’t accept card at the time of writing Aug. ‘25
The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly, you only had to ask and it would be done for you, I would definitely recommend this restaurant in Southport
The best chippy in the north west, no question. Get yourself a chop suey roll, fish, chips, curry sauce and thank me later. Always my first stop wherever I’m back on the Wirral. 5* gaff 5* staff
